Musical Director– Mr. Geraint Roberts


Geraint studied in the Royal College of Music in London specialising in the Piano and Harp. He was given the experience of conducting by Sir David Wilcox – a very special opportunity. He succeeded to achieve his ARCM Diploma early in the course and graduated with honours at the end of the course. He studied a year's post-graduate course further studying performance on the Harp and Piano. He extended his studies at London University with Professor Keith Swanwick – an international expert in Music Education.


After returning to Wales he began his career in Education at Ysgol Emrys ap Iwan, Abergele as Head of Music before being appointed Deputy Head. He conducted the Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir from 1981 – 2015 and during this time was successful in winning both the Chief Male Voice Competition and the Ivor Simms Memorial Medal on six occasions at the National Eisteddfod. He has been a guest conductor throughout the world – in the UK, Europe, America and Australia.


He is popular as a Cymanfa Conductor, and as a National Adjudicator. He has conducted the National Eisteddfod Choir in Colwyn Bay and Flintshire. He enjoys working in the Media and was successful with the Codi Canu series on S4C enjoying the success with Côr Rygbi’r Gogledd and the Mixed Choir at Rhosllannerchrugog.  



After retiring from his work at the school he is delighted to be working at Canolfan Gerdd William Matthias as a Piano and Voice tutor. He also works there as a Choral Conductor after establishing a new mixed voice choir for adults on Thursday afternoons. 




Accompanist – Miss Rachel Phillips


Rachel is a Solicitor by profession, but since her school days she has spent much of her spare time behind a piano.  In 2005, whilst studying at the College of Law in Chester, Rachel was invited to become Deputy Accompanist to the Rhos Orpheus Male Choir.  She has been with the Orpheus Choir ever since.  Having moved to live near Wrexham she is now their accompanist and Deputy Musical Director.  She has also been Accompanist to Côr Merched Y Rhos.  Rachel joined Côr Ger Y Ffin as accompanist in 2011 and has enjoyed competing with them and being part of the choir’s development so far.


Deputy Musical Director

Mrs. Rhiannon Owens-Hall


Rhiannon Owens-Hall attended the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying cello, voice and directing. She has several music degrees and has also gained a Master of Education degree. Following an early career teaching music at both primary and secondary school levels, Rhiannon became a Principal Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University. After taking early retirement she worked at Glyndŵr University, training future generation of teachers in music.


Her involvement with singing spans some forty five years as a performer, director and coach. She has worked with both the “British Youth Choir Federation” and “Sing for Pleasure in England”. She has made several television appearances and recordings with young and adult performers. Additionally Rhiannon has been a Musical Director of male, female and mixed voice barbershop choruses attaining Gold medals as both director and quartet singer.


She has worked with several classical choirs and operatic societies, participating in “A Cappella” festivals and concert tours across Europe. She is an established international judge and coach; educating, coaching and judging throughout the UK and in Holland, Germany, South Africa and parts of the U.S.A.


Rhiannon is the current director of the Clwyd Clippers, based in Mold, North Wales as well being Assistant Musical Director of Côr Ger y Ffin.



Deputy Accompanist–

Mrs. Angela Roberts


Angela graduated from the University of Wales, Bangor with a BA (Hons) degree in Music. She has now retired as Musical Co-ordinator at Brynhedydd School in Rhyl where she made a valuable contribution to the musical life of the school and surrounding area.  She is accompanist to two North Wales choirs  – Côr Ger Y Ffin and North Wales Rugby Choir.


Angela is in demand as an accompanist at concerts and eisteddfodau and as a conductor at Singing Festivals, especially with children and young people.  She is an active member of her church and leads the Sunday school, organizing many special services.


A keen organist, Angela enjoys accompanying on the organ, especially on the beautiful Pipe Organ that has been a prominent feature at her church for over a hundred years.  She has a very rich singing voice and is also in demand as a soloist and chorister.
